At Dakotabilities, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy services are available to people, Monday through Friday.
We have two consultants that are scheduled at least twice monthly, to complete admission evaluations and annual
updates. The consultants determine the type of exercises a person will receive and how many times per week. The
department is coordinated by a nurse, who also supervises 3 trained staff. The staff are trained by the consulting
therapists and also monitored on a regular basis for proper technique.
Services available at this time include, but are not limited to:
- Active-assisted range of motion to bilateral upper extremities and lower extremities
- Passive range of motion to bilateral upper extremities and lower extremities
- Strengthening exercises
- Standing with the assistance of a tilt table or in a stand-aid
- Cervical stretching and cervical traction
- Ambulation training
- Balance training
Range of motion is the normal amount of movement in any given joint in the body. People served may have deficits in
there range of motion due to high spasticity and high muscle tone (normal amount of tension or vigor in muscles when
at rest). Assistance is needed in these areas to maintain range of motion, movement, and independence.
